Meet the Staff

Dr. Philip Vahab

Born in the suburbs of New York, Dr. Vahab earned his Bachelor of Arts from Washington University-St. Louis, MO in 1998.  After graduation, he began a career in molecular genetics working at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories in New York.  Dr. Vahab then started a PhD in Plant Cell and Molecular Biology at Cornell University.  

Dr. Vahab then made a career change, and obtained his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.  He then completed a three year residency at the University of Maryland in order to limit his practice to the specialty of orthodontics.  In conjunction with his orthodontic residency, Dr. Vahab obtained a Masters of Science in Oral Biology.   

Dr. Vahab has been the recipient of many awards including the Cornell University Plant Cell and Molecular Biology Fellowship, the International Association for Dental Research Fellowship, the American Association of Orthodontists Award, and the Dr. A. John Gwinnett Award for excellence in Oral Biology and General Dentistry.  In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Vahab was the co-founder and President of the Stony Brook Dental Honor Code Society, and was honored to deliver the commencement speech at his dental school graduation.   

Dr. Vahab decided to permanently settle down in the D.C. area when he met his wife Lana, who now works as an attorney for the Department of Justice.  You might spot them riding around DC on their vintage tandem bicycle or hiking along the Potomac River.

Welcome!  As the office/financial coordinator, I take care of the daily business of the office as well as help out with scheduling, answering the phone and in treatment when they need an extra hand. I have worked here for over 20 years, and love getting to know our patients and taking care of their needs. I also enjoy creating the quarterly games for our patients! We always get really into the games, and they're a lot of fun, especially for our patients who are young or young at heart! Outside of work, my hobbies include quilting, gardening, and researching genealogy! I also raise Australorp Chickens!

Hey!  Let me start off by saying, that it's truly a pleasure being Dr. Shefferman's Treatment and Marketing Coordinator.  Every day I am given the opportunity to help patients find the right path in acheiving their beautiful, confident smiles.  I also enjoy helping with our office games and contests in office and online. (Check out our Facebook pages to see all the fun we've been having!)  When I'm not in the office you'll probably find me soaking in the sun with a book, having a blast with Karaoke, or on the couch watching some movies--I am a huge movie buff!

Hi there!  I'm an orthodontic assistant for Dr. Shefferman, and I work with patients on an individual basis, helping them feel comfortable and providing gentle treatment. I've been working here for over ten years, and have worked in the dental field for over 15 years!  I love providing patients with quality treatments that improve their bite and their smile!  My family members include my husband, our two wonderful children, and hopefully a little dog in the future!

Hello!  I really enjoy my position as an orthodontic assistant for Dr. Shefferman.  I love the one on one interaction with patients and providing them with gentle care and helping them feel at ease during treatment.  As I am originally from Honduras I am fluent in Spanish.  When I am away from the office I spend as much time with my family as I can.  I also love catching up on my favorite TV shows and I am an avid reader.

Hi, I want to say I am thrilled to be an orthodontic assistant for Dr. Shefferman.  It is a most rewarding job and I enjoy watching the changes that take place in the straighting of a smile as well as seeing the patients change as they become more confident with that new smile.  Outside of the office I love playing soccer and do as much traveling as possible.

I'm really excited to be working with Dr. Shefferman and his staff.  I am applying to dental school next fall and look forward to gaining experience over the next year.  I really enjoy learning about orthodontics and watching the transformations we can achieve.
